Welcome to the Carlsbad Caverns!

One of the main attractions at Carlsbad Caverns (during the summer anyway) is the bats. During August and September, thousands of baby bats take their first flights. In addition, bats from the north migrate south and stop in Carlsbad - kind of a Motel 6. At dusk, you can watch as the bats fly from the cave to hunt. Thousands and thousands of them, they fly in spirals, moving faster and faster, to gain enough momentum to shoot into the night in search of bugs.

My last exciting tour was caving expedition into Spider Cave. These tours require you to crawl, bend, twist, climb, and generally contort yourself in order to see some really spectacular and unusual formations. The tour took close to 4 hours and was well worth the bruises (and not a little cave dirt)that I walked away with.
