Willkommen to Germany and Austria!
Gutentag!
In February, I took a 2 week vacation with my husband and two of our good friends, driving the Autobahn across Europe. We had some unexpected detours and saw a little more of England and a little less of Germany than planned - but then what's a trip without the unexpected?
The sense of history and connection with the past is incredible in these countries. Every turn in the road reveals another small town with cathedral spires reaching for the sky or rotting castles on the mountainside. The avalanches prevented us from seeing some of the more famous castles, such as Neuschwanstien, but we made up for it by exploring the cities and towns.
We skied, we drove, we ate way too much pork. We endured the biting winds and snows, sudden illness, and no chains for our tires. We spoke German (or tried to), discovered that Einbahn is not the name of specific street, and visited Lichtenschtein. It was terrific!
